Chennai | A poor performance by the batsmen saw India lose the Chennai ODI by 21 runs and as well as lost the ODI series by 2-1. After winning the toss, the entire Australian team could not stand in front of the excellent bowling of Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav and got reduced to 269 runs in 49 overs. Travis Head (33) and Mitchell Marsh (47) made a great start for Australia and shared a 68-run partnership for the first wicket, Hardik Pandya sent Travel Head, Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh to the pavilion in a span of 17 runs and got Indian team back in the match. Although none of the Australian batsmen were able to play big innings, Australia achieved a respectable score of 269 runs. Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav took 3-3 and Akshar Patel took 2 wickets. Chasing target of 269 runs, India got off to a good start with Rohit Sharma (30) and Shubman Gill (37), Virat Kohli tried his best to take India to victory by playing an innings of 54 runs, but as soon as Kohli was dismissed, the Indians innings fell apart badly, with Hardik Pandya scoring 40, but the other Indian batsmen were unable to respond to Adam Zampa’s superb bowling of 4/45, and India were bundled out for 248 in 49.1 overs, lost the match by 21 runs and the series by 2–1. Adam Zampa was adjudged Man of the Match and Mitchell Marsh was adjudged Player of the Tournament.
